    • Sr. Renée Mirkes, OSF, Ph.D.

    • Ethicist to Speak on Transgender Issues, April 20

      Medical ethicist Sr. Renée Mirkes, OSF, Ph.D., will give two presentations of her lecture "Light at the End of the Tunnel: Forming Our Consciences on Transgender Issues" on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. 

      • The first will take place at Our Lady ofPerpetual Help Church in Germantown, TN at 12:30 p.m. A pizza lunch will be served (please call 901-578-2643  or email stmartin@stpeterchurch.org to give us a count). 
      • At 7 p.m. that evening Sr. Renée will present the same lecture at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Cordova. 
      • Admission to both lectures is free.

      Sr. Renée is the director of the NaProEthics Center, which is the ethics division of the Saint Paul VI Institute.  She holds a master's degree in moral theology from the University of St. Thomas in Houston and a doctor of philosophy degree in Theological Ethics from Marquette University.  Sr. Renée has given numeros lectures and written many articles on bioethics. 
      Transgenderism is a controversial series of issues taking center stage on today's social landscape.  Sr. Renée has the knowledge, experience, and sensitivity to enlighten people who care to hear the Catholic view on the issues and their moral implications.

The St. Martin de Porres National Shrine & Institute is located at historic Saint Peter Catholic Church in downtown Memphis, at the corner of B.B. King Blvd. and Adams Avenue. It is directly across the street from the Shelby County Courthouse.
